about

Inspired by Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road', 'Moriarty' is an homage to “the mad ones". Written following the passing of a friend, 'Moriarty' is a meditation on and celebration of those rare souls who are “mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved”. With an accompanying music video shot in Mparntwe/Alice Springs (keyboardist Lily’s hometown) on Arrernte Country featuring a full-blown firework finale, ‘Moriarty’ quite literally explodes and burns, burns, burns “like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.” Produced by Michael Badger (King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Amyl and the Sniffers) and mastered by Steve Smart (King Stingray) 'Moriarty' is GLOB’s fifth release and first for 2024.

lyrics

Moriarty, king of the party
Where did all your subjects go?
They grew and left you to face what raged in you
Sat upon your broken throne

Moriarty, they fucked up the casting
That should have been you on the road
But you burnt too bright to see ahead of you
But what a beautiful light show

Hanging on the edge and it's such a long way down
High above but not high enough and it's a long way
Hanging on the edge and it's such a long way down
High above but not high enough and it's a long way

Moriarty, you spoke of a robbery
Was that to take back all they stole?
But early one morning, you left your body
Now a background on a phone

Hanging on the edge and it's such a long way down
High above but not high enough and it's a long way down
Hanging on the edge and it's such a long way down
High above but not high enough and it's a long way

Moriarty, king of the party
Now a background on a phone
